2 Jordanian universities, Malaysian centre sign partnership to boost religious education

AMMAN — The World Islamic Sciences and Education University (WISE) and Yarmouk University signed a memorandum of understanding on Sunday in Amman with the Islamic Studies Centre in the Malaysian State of Johor, with the aim of reviving previous cooperation agreements. 

The agreement was signed by President of WISE Wael Arabiyat and President of Yarmouk University Zeidan Kafafi on the Jordanian side and Haji Tosrin Bin Jarvanthi, Chairman of the state religious committee and Chairman of Board of the Malaysia Islamic Research and Arabic Language Centre at Johor MARSAH, according to a statement from the Malaysian embassy.

The Chief Minister of the State of Johor Yab Dato Sahruddin Bin Jamal is currently on a two-day official visit to Jordan, where he met with the Grand Mufti of Jordan Sheikh Abdul Karim Khasawneh. 

The two sides discussed means to strengthen ties between the two Muslim countries, especially in religious education, the statement said.

The chief minister earlier met with 78 Malaysian students from the state of Johor who are studying Sharia, Fiqh and Fundamentals of Islamic Religion and the Arabic language in Jordan. 

The total number of Malaysian students studying at various Jordanian universities stands at 730, according to the statement.

The chief minister is accompanied on his visit by the Mufti of Johor, the Director of Religious Affairs Committees, Johor State Executive Councillor Tuan Haji Tosrin Bin Jarvanthi, State Sceretary of Johor Dato’ Haji Azmi Bin Rohani and Johor state Finance Officer Tuan Mohd Khuzzan Bin Abu Bakar.
