12 flights land Saturday carrying tourists from European destinations

AMMAN — Queen Alia International Airport in Amman (QAIA) and King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba (KHIA) on Saturday received 12 low-costs tourist flights from 11 European destinations, the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) announced.

JTB Director General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat said that QAIA received eight RyanAir flights, while KHIA received three EasyJet flights and one RyanAir flight, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Arabiyat added that this increase is driven by the JTB’s recent contract to resume low-cost carrier flights, in an effort to attract more tourists to the Kingdom.

The director general noted that QAIA received tourists from Milan, Prague, Memmingen, Paris, Vienna, Bologna, Lucca and Rome, while KHIA welcomed tourists from Berlin, Geneva and London through EasyJet flights.  

He noted that the JTB, in cooperation with the Tourism Ministry, seeks to increase low-cost carrier movement after in-bound tourism declined due to the pandemic.

He noted that the Kingdom is expected to witness further increases in the number of tourists after Wizz Air begins operations in mid-December.

He also referred to the cooperation among the JTB, the Tourism Ministry and airline companies to ensure the project’s sustainability and make Jordan a preferable tourist destination.
