‘No monopolies allowed’ in local oil derivative market — EMRC

AMMAN — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) on Thursday confirmed that all activities related to oil derivatives, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), are open for all to practise in accordance with the Petroleum Derivatives Law No. 11 of 2018.

In a statement, the EMRC said that no party mayhave a monopoly over activities related to LPG in the Kingdom.

The commission also confirmed that any party wishing to carry out activities related to LPG must submit a licence application to the EMRC in accordance with the conditions and requirements mentioned in the relevant legislation.

The EMRC also confirmed that one of the seven companies licensed to carry out LPG distribution by means of tanks has been permitted to import LPG to cover part of the local consumption.

The EMRC also affirmed that marketing companies, according to the licences granted to them, have the right to engage in importing all types of gasoline, diesel, gas and aviation fuel, as well as exporting, transporting, manufacturing, packaging, storing, loading, unloading, distributing and selling these materials in bulk and retail.
