Expanding horizons
Mar 07,2015 - Last updated at Mar 07,2015
March 8 marks the International Women’s Day. Amman hosts its own International Women’s Association, a dynamic, diverse and dedicated community of women ready to help others integrate in the local society.
The International Women’s Association Amman was founded in February 2012 to provide support for women in the expatriate community; it is a strong network of like-minded women sharing similar goals, interests and living situations.
Through participation in a wide variety of social activities, cultural programmes, Arabic language classes, travel and sports, members can explore new friendships and forge lasting bonds with the local community.
In just two years, the association had over 300 members from 63 different countries.
The group promotes active community outreach, with members volunteering to support charitable causes.
All activities and events aim to enable members to make the most of their experience of living in Jordan.
Meeting women with other life perspectives and from different cultural backgrounds expands one’s individual horizon and influences attitudes.
It is not just the women who join the associations that benefit, but also the local communities and businesses in the host city.
