PM meets with UK Minister for Development

AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Thursday met UK Minister for Development Andrew Mitchell, who is currently visiting Jordan.

During the meeting, Khasawneh emphasised the strategic relationship between both kingdoms, and expressed his keenness to broaden cooperation to the benefit of both countries, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The premier praised the UK's support for Jordan's development efforts, and commended its role within the international community in supporting the country. 

He also reviewed the economic challenges Jordan faces due to the continued impact of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees, which has affected the country’s budget, labour market, and healthcare and education sectors.

Khasawneh stressed the importance of continued international support for refugees and host communities.

The PM also briefed the British minister on the comprehensive reform project being led by His Majesty King Abdullah in the political, economic, and administrative spheres.

Mitchell praised the strategic partnership between Jordan and the UK, and expressed his desire to enhance cooperation in various fields.

He commended Jordan's role in maintaining the regional security and stability, and affirmed his country’s recognition of the challenges and burdens borne by Jordan as a result of hosting Syrian refugees.
