AMMAN — Secretary General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs (RCJA) Abdullah Kanaan on Saturday said that Israel continues war crimes and its daily apartheid policy against the Palestinian people and Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Kanaan added that the systematic Israeli break-ins into Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif are intensifying, under the leadership and supervision of extremist Jewish Temple organisations with the participation of thousands of settlers under the protection of the Israeli forces.

The secretary general noted that these attacks, carried out under the false pretext of holding Talmudic rituals, aim to serve political interests of settlement movements that seek to judaise Jerusalem, displace Jerusalemites, and change its Arab, Islamic and Christian identity.

He added that these serious incursions taking place in Al Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem, which are carried out by Jewish settlers, under Israeli authorities' protection and approval, reflect apartheid practices.

To defy Israel's escalation and continuous violation against Jerusalemites and Islamic and Christian holy sites, and settlement projects, the RCJA affirms that the "painful global silence" in the face of Israel’s failure to implement international legitimacy resolutions directly threatens Jerusalem's historical status quo and increases crimes against Palestinians.

In this regard, Kanaan said that the holy city's affairs and situation were run through the Hashemite Custodianship that is universally supported, demanded, and is necessary.

To realise peace, the secretary general noted that RCJA stresses His Majesty King Abdullah's firm position that calls for restoring the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and establishment of their state on their occupied historical territories on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He urged the international community to pressure Israel and seriously impose sanctions on it and take all necessary deterrent procedures against Israel, "exactly as the world does with other countries that violate the international legitimacy".
