AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received a Russian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, who conveyed a message to His Majesty from Russian President Vladimir Putin on the latest regional developments.

The King asked the Russian deputy foreign minister to convey his greetings to President Putin, reaffirming the deep-rooted Jordanian-Russian ties and keenness to bolster them in all fields, according to a Royal Court statement.

The meeting covered the importance of strengthening the partnership between the two countries, and continuing coordination and consultation on various issues of mutual concern.

Discussions also addressed regional developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, with His Majesty reiterating the need to reach a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the statement said.

Turning to the Syrian crisis, the King reaffirmed the need to reach a political solution that safeguards the territorial integrity of Syria and the unity of its people, while guaranteeing the safe, voluntary return of refugees.

Efforts to reach political solutions to regional crises were also discussed.

Also on Sunday, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi discussed with the visiting Russian delegation bilateral cooperation and the latest regional developments.

During the meeting, Safadi called for intensified international efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis that can safeguard the country’s unity and stability.

On the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Safadi reiterated that any resolution to the issue needs to be based on the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the pre-1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
