English Access programme students graduate

AMMAN — A total of 440 public school students graduated from the US-sponsored English Access Microscholarship Programme and received their certificates from US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Stephanie T. Williams last week, an embassy statement said Monday.

The Access programme provides English language skills to talented teenagers from economically disadvantaged sectors.

 After completing two years of after-school classes and intensive sessions, the participants’ “improved English language skills will lead to better jobs and educational opportunities”, the statement said.

“We know that many of you want to help in the development of your country and to bring opportunities to your communities.

 We hope that Access has helped you take one step along that path,” Williams told the graduates.

Since it started in 2004, the programme has benefited approximately 95,000 students in more than 85 countries, including more than 3,000 Jordanians.
