AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury on Monday announced that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) had chosen Jordan as a venue for the EBRD 2018 Annual Meeting of Board of Governors and Business Forum.
The announcement was made during a meeting between Fakhoury, also Jordan’s governor to the EBRD, and EBRD’s executive director for Canada, Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan, Douglas Nevison, who is currently visiting Jordan for talks on cooperation between Jordan and the bank, according to a ministry statement.
Fakhoury said choosing the Kingdom as the location for the annual meeting of the EBRD Board of Governors – to be held in the Dead Sea area between May 8 and 10, 2018 — marks the recognition of Jordan’s role in the region and seeks to promote the Kingdom as an attractive investment destination.
He also expressed appreciation for the bank’s continuous support to Jordan through public and private sector projects, in addition to the assistance it provides to the Kingdom to overcome the repercussions of the Syrian refugee crisis.
Talks between Fakhoury and Nevison also focused on preparations for the board of governors’ annual meeting to be held in Cyprus between May 9 and 11, 2017.
For his part, Nevison praised Jordan’s efforts in hosting Syrian refugees, stressing the EBRD’s commitment to honour its pledges as agreed upon at the London conference, as well as providing the Kingdom with soft loans, according to the statement.
