AMMAN – The National Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Genetics and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes on Thursday held the Jordanian-European Diabetes Conference, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Deputising for Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Health Minister Mahmoud Sheyyab attended the conference, which focussed on complications and prevention.
The minister said recent studies have shown an increase in cases of diabetes, noting that 25 per cent of people over 25 have the disease. The economic cost of this disease in Jordan ranges between JD1.4 billion and JD1.6 billion, which is one-fifth of the budget, he added.
