Ambassadors from southeast Asia visit industrial sites in Maan

AMMAN — A delegation of southeast Asian ambassadors to Amman on Saturday visited industrial sites in the governorate of Maan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the production operations of the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and its capability to meet their countries’ needs of “high quality” phosphate and fertilisers.

The countries who took part included Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.

The Thai Ambassador to Jordan Pornpong Kanittanon, said that southeast Asian countries have strong economic ties with Jordan, pointing out that the JPMC exports most of its production to Asian markets. Chief Executive Officer of JPMC Shafeeq Ashqar said that the company sought to formulate a plan, based on market demand, to produce 9 million tonnes of crude phosphate.

He added that the company’s profits for the third quarter of 2018 were about JD33 million, which are expected to reach JD40 million by the end of the year.
