Japan vows to help Jordan preserve stability

AMMAN — King Abdullah met on Wednesday with Japan’s deputy foreign minister, Yasuhide Nakayama, who conveyed his country’s condolences and sympathies over the death of Jordanian pilot Muath Kasasbeh.

The Japanese official conveyed Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s “strong condemnation of the heinous crime committed by the terrorist group”, according to a Royal Court statement.

The King expressed his appreciation of Japan, its government and people, for their humanitarian stand and their solidarity with Jordan and the family of the Jordanian pilot.

He stressed the strategic importance of the relations with Japan and its key role in the region, stressing the Kingdom’s commitment to boosting Jordanian-Japanese ties in various fields.

Nakayama conveyed Japan’s thanks, appreciation and respect of the Kingdom’s position vis-à-vis the two Japanese hostages who were killed by the same terrorist group, noting that his country would not cave in to any threats from terrorists.

He underlined the “strong and historic bilateral relations”, stressing that Japan will continue to assist and support Jordan to boost its development and guarantee its stability in the region.

He also expressed Japan’s thanks to Jordanian institutions and entities that supported the Asian country during the hostage crisis.

The meeting was attended by HRH Prince Feisal, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Director of the King’s Office Jafar Hassan and the delegation accompanying Nakayama.
