AMMAN — Former national economy minister Mohammad Nabulsi passed away on Tuesday night.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Wednesday paid tribute to Nabulsi, who was born in Jaffa in 1928.

He obtained a bachelor of law degree from the University of Damascus and a PhD in economics from Georgetown University in Washington.

Nabulsi served as minister of the national economy in Ahmad Lozi’s government in 1972 and held the post of Central Bank of Jordan governor for 19 years — from 1973 to 1985 and from 1989 to 1995.

Nabulsi also served as a development finance expert at the UN Industrial Development Organisation and worked as professor at the Syrian Private University in Damascus.
