AMMAN - The Civil Defence Department (CDD) dealt with a total of 1,295 traffic accidents, fires and rescue operations across the Kingdom during Eid Al Fitr and the weekend, resulting in 22 deaths and 1,283 injuries.
The number of first aid and rescue operations from Tuesday to Friday stood at 1,158, according to a CDD statement.
The CDD dealt with a road accident in Zarqa where a car collided with a truck resulting in the deaths of two persons.
In Maan, a 22-year-old man died and another was injured in a collision on the Desert Highway.
A 29-year-old citizen also died during the weekend when his car overturned in Al Yasmeen neighbourhood in southwest Amman.
In another accident in Jerash, nine people suffered bruises and wounds in a collision between a pickup truck and a car on Ableen-Souf Street, according to the CDD.
In Ajloun, six people were injured in a collision involving a bus and a car, the CDD indicated.
An eight-year-old boy drowned during the Eid in the Jordan Valley’s King Abdullah Canal and was taken to Abu Obaidah Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The CDD dealt with several fires during the Tuesday-Friday period.
Firefighters extinguished a blaze in a furniture warehouse in Tla Al Ali and investigations were under way to determine the cause of the fire.
The CDD also extinguished a fire that broke out in a shoe factory in Irbid. Initial reports indicated that the fire was due to electrical short-circuit.
