AMMAN — Chicken product quantities increased in the local market, according to stakeholders.

Speaking with The Jordan Times, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply Yanal Barmawi said that “there is a serious commitment to the price ceilings set by the ministry... and so far only 81 violations have been detected for not adhering to chicken price ceilings” .

According to the spokesperson, “the daily count for chicken slaughtered and then processed into chicken products are currently over 500,000,” while market demand is 500,000 per day, he added.

Further, he noted that another 200,000 live chickens are available per day.

Due to seasonal temperature changes and other factors, chicken sizes and availability were impacted in the last period, however, chicken sizes have improved and local chicken production is on the mend.

Mohammed Hussein, a Jordanian working in a chicken chain store, told The Jordan Times over the phone that “chicken prices are stable and there are sufficient quantities available in the local market”,

He noted that consumers’ purchasing patterns and seasonal variations always impact poultry market prices, adding that the ministry is always monitoring the market, and this gives consumers further reassurance about local poultry products.
