AMMAN — Director General of the Meteorological Department (JMD) Raed Khattab said on Monday that rainfall for May was weak and lower than monthly averages in most of the southern and eastern regions and the northern Jordan Valley.
Khattab added that rain during May usually constitutes about 1-2 per cent of the general seasonal average in the north and centre of the Kingdom, and about 4-6 per cent in the southern and eastern regions, according to JMD.
He highlighted that some parts of the southern regions did not witness any rainfall during May, noting that the rain performance in most northern and central regions was around or above the monthly averages and ranged between 1 to 3 per cent of the general seasonal average.
The precipitation performance for May 2023 was higher than the monthly averages in most regions of the Kingdom specifically in the southern and eastern areas, achieving rates that ranged between 9 to 30 per cent of the seasonal average for these regions.
