AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Friday welcomed the International Court of Justice's (ICJ’s) "historic" ruling, which orders Israel to immediately stop its military assault on Rafah and any actions causing destruction to the Palestinian people.

The ICJ on Friday ordered Israel to open the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza, allow the entry of humanitarian aid. The court also mandated that Israel permit investigators to access the besieged strip and submit a progress report within a month.

Ministry Spokesperson Sufian Qudah underscored the importance of implementing this decision, adding that the decision represents the global will to end the aggressive war and the unprecedented suffering and humanitarian disaster it has caused, which violates international legal laws, international humanitarian law, and moral and humanitarian principles.

The Security Council must promptly take on its responsibilities, put an end to Israel's persistent violations of international law, and impose its application without bias or double standards, Qudah stressed.

He also warned that Israel would persist in its crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza, reiterating the need to remove all barriers and ensure that sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid can enter the Gaza Strip in all areas and that the Rafah crossing will always be available for humanitarian aid to enter the besieged strip.

Qudah highlighted the necessity of implementing the court's decision to take effective measures to ensure that the investigation and inquiry committees, mandated by UN bodies, can carry out their tasks of investigating genocide crimes without obstacles.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also on Friday stressed that Israel is yet again violating international law and defying the ICJ’s rulings.

On his X social media account, Safadi stressed that the ICJ is exposing Israeli war crimes in Gaza, calling on the UN Security Council to hold Israel accountable, end its impunity, and cease its discriminatory enforcement of international law.
