AMMAN — The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) called on the international community to take an “immediate” action to halt Israeli violations against women's rights in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

The centre called for providing protection for women protect from the occupation's violence and provide them with essential support, including psychological and social assistance.

The NCHR said in a statement that the world marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in light of the aggression against the Gaza Strip. “The aggression is flagrant and direct violations of women's rights, including murder, genocide, limited food and medicines, and cutting water and fuel supplies,” the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The NCHR noted Jordan has taken a number of steps and endorsed laws and ratified conventions to enhance protection of women and join forces working to ensure the welfare of women, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Protection against Domestic Violence Law in 2017.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE campaign (November 25- December 10) — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (December 10), according to the UN Woman website.

This 2023 campaign dubbed "Invest to Prevent Violence against Women & Girls" will call on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls and call on governments worldwide to share how they are investing in gender-based violence prevention, it said.
