AMMAN — Minister of Investment Kholoud Al Saqqaf on Monday met Cypriot Ambassador Michalis Ioannou to discuss the recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) for investment cooperation.

The memo was signed on the sidelines of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides' visit to Amman and his meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah.

Saqqaf highlighted the role of the MoU in strengthening economic ties and promoting cooperation, as it aims to establish a regulatory framework to facilitate investment and business expansion.

According to a ministry statement, the discussions focused on strategies to enhance bilateral investment relations, with Saqqaf highlighting available investment opportunities and sectors with promising prospects.

She also outlined the steps taken by the government and the ministry to strengthen Jordan's competitive edge in attracting investment, including the legislative advancements such as the issuance of the Public-Private Partnership Law, the formulation of the 2023-2026 Investment Promotion Strategy and the launching of the "Invest in Jordan" platform (invest.jo) in addition to the automation of 95 services related to licensing and economic activities.

The Cypriot ambassador revealed plans for an upcoming virtual meeting scheduled for September between the Jordanian Ministry of Investment and the Invest Cyprus, the national Cypriot investment promotion agency to analyse the mechanisms and strategies for the implementation of the signed memo.
