AMMAN — The Jordan Industrial Estates Company (JIEC) and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) on Saturday signed a partnership agreement to establish an eco-friendly Agricultural Heritage Tourist City in Jerash, marking a significant step towards sustainable tourism development.
The agreement follows recent Cabinet amendments regarding land use objectives for the Jerash Industrial City. As a result, the site will be transformed into an Agricultural Heritage Tourist City rather than an industrial zone, according to Al Mamlaka TV.
Under the agreement, the roles and responsibilities are as follows: The JIEC, as the master developer, and RSCN as the sub-developer, will lead all necessary studies, feasibility assessments and designs for the Agricultural Heritage Tourist City.
JIEC Chairman Louay Sahweil emphasised the company's commitment to enhancing economic growth in Jerash, noting that the company has previously worked to expand and develop Jerash Industrial City. Sahweil reiterated JIEC’s support for transforming the industrial area into an eco-friendly agricultural heritage destination that will benefit the local community.
Fadi Naser, RSCN director general, emphasised that the agreement is a primary start for the project.
With the green light to commence the necessary studies and designs, the RSCN has engaged a local engineering firm to carry out required assessments. Upon completion of the feasibility studies and project designs, a subsequent agreement will be signed with the JIEC to move forward with the implementation phase of the project, Naser added.
