AMMAN — The Chinese embassy in Amman on Monday evening held a reception marking the 96th foundation anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Defence Attaché Col. Li Pengfei said that the Jordanian-Chinese military relationship is an important part of the strategic partnership between the two countries, developed after the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in terms of joint personnel education, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that the two countries are exploring new areas and aspects of military-security cooperation, focusing on jointly dealing with traditional and non-traditional security threats.
Pengfei added that the Jordanian people and the Jordan Armed Forces-Armed Forces (JAF) have been "deeply" devoted to regional and global peace, for which they are "widely praised" and respected by the international community.
He noted that since PLA's founding in 1927, it has made great contributions to China’s national independence, the people’s liberation and national rejuvenation.
The defence attaché added that China, as a country that would never become hegemonic and expansionist, adheres to peaceful development and pursues a defensive National Defence Policy.
China respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, stands firmly against the Cold War mentality, internal affairs interference, political double standards, and all forms of hegemony and power politics.
Pengfei said that China firmly participates in UN peacekeeping missions and has dispatched the greatest number of peacekeepers among the permanent UN Security Council members, noting that Beijing is the second largest contributor to the UN peacekeeping budget.
Today, the international community is confronted with multiple emerging risks and challenges, he pointed out, adding that the world is once again at a challenging historical crossroads, but one that is also brimming with hope.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, which was attended by guests, customs officers, military officials and Arab and foreign embassy attaches, a documentary film on the development of the PLA was screened.
