AMMAN —  Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday received a phone call from British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.

The two ministers discussed strategies to expand existing cooperation between their respective countries within the framework of their strong strategic partnership, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Both ministers emphasised their shared commitment to exploring broader avenues of collaboration in the economic, trade, tourism, investment and defence sectors.

They also reaffirmed the continuous efforts of both kingdoms in resolving regional crises and achieving security and stability.

The two officials reviewed the ongoing endeavours aimed at halting the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and advancing towards a genuine political resolution for a fair and lasting peace.

The sole way is a two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and accredited terms of reference, Safadi said, emphasising the critical importance of halting illegal Israeli actions that undermine this path.

Safadi and Cleverly also addressed the joint efforts towards finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria and establishing the necessary conditions for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.

Safadi emphasised the need to approach the refugee issue by recognising that their ultimate resolution lies in their safe return to their country of origin.

He further highlighted that prioritising the creation of a suitable environment for this return should be a key focus in international approaches to refugee-related pressures.

Safadi highlighted the challenges faced by Jordan as a host country for Syrian refugees, amid the significant decline in international support.

“Addressing the refugee burden is an international responsibility that should not solely shouldered by the host countries,” Safadi said.

Safadi expressed his gratitude to his British counterpart for the ongoing support provided by the United Kingdom in Jordan's development programmes and their assistance in responding to the regional crises' repercussions.

Cleverly in response commended Jordan's pivotal role as a fundamental partner in the region's efforts to enhance security, peace and stability.
