AMMAN — Director of Lower House Education and Youth Committee, Taleb Sarairah on Wednesday emphasised the quality of education in the Kingdom, particularly in the field of medical specialties and the prominence of Jordanian universities.
During a committee meeting chaired by Sarairah, which was also attended by the Minister of Education and Scientific Research Azmi Mahafzah, along with several national and international guests, a discussion was held about the Kuwaiti Ministry of Higher Education’s decision to halt scholarships to Jordan for medical students. The meeting also covered a recent decision to increase tuition fees at some private schools, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The Parliamentary Education Committee is scheduled to meet with a number of university presidents and the deans of medical colleges in the coming week to discuss the Kuwaiti Ministry’s decision, Sarairah added, reaffirming the deep-rooted relations between the two countries.
Mahafzah indicated that Jordanian universities maintain their ranking among the world’s best universities, which shows their continuous progress. He added that the Kuwaiti Ministry’s decision solely pertains to the suspension of scholarships for medical specialisations in Jordan and does not affect the recognition of Jordanian accreditations and certificates.
In regard to private school tuition fees, the minister affirmed that increases will be capped at 5 per cent, and noted that 210 schools applied for tuition increases, only 27 of which received approval from the ministry.
