AMMAN — The Kingdom is participating in the 76th World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland under the theme: "WHO at 75: Saving lives, driving health for all".

Delivering a speech at the event, Health Minister Firas Al Hawari said that Jordan has worked “hand-in-hand” with the World Health Organisation (WHO) “in all situations, of prosperity and emergency”, where Jordan, in solidarity with the international community, has achieved great success in containing the refugee crisis within its territory.

Hawari pointed out that support for refugees is an international responsibility, not just that of host countries, and that meeting their healthcare requirements is both a humanitarian duty and a regional and international security imperative, especially after the difficult circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister also said that Jordan stresses the importance of ensuring stable international support for refugees and host countries, and making sure that efforts are not undermined in a way that would adversely affect healthcare provisions for refugees in host countries or directly threaten the stability of health systems and the lives of the host countries' citizens.

The assembly is being held between May 21 and 30 and includes a series of strategic roundtables. During these sessions, WHA delegates, partner agencies, representatives of civil society and WHO experts will discuss current and future priorities for public health issues of global importance, according to WHO website.
