AMMAN — The 43rd Jordanian-US Joint Military Committee meeting commenced in Amman on Monday, under the chairmanship of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti and US Assistant Secretary of Defence, Celeste Wallander.
The three-day meeting aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries' armies, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
In a speech during the opening session, Huneiti said that over the years, the committee has become a "cornerstone" of military cooperation between Jordan and the US.
He said that the committee also reflects the "deep-rooted" cooperation in defence projects between the two countries and their will to develop such collaboration to serve joint goals of peace and stability in the region and beyond.
The army chief also stressed that the Kingdom has played a vital role in promoting stability and maintaining peace in the region over the years. The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army has shown steadfastness in facing several threats and fighting organised smuggling and infiltration attempts at the Kingdom's borders, he added.
For their part, the US delegates commended the meetings for cementing the "deep-rooted" relations between the Amman and Washington, noting that the meetings seek to develop the various capabilities of the two armies through approving all joint activities in security assistance and military cooperation.
Also on Monday, Huneiti met with Wallander and her accompanying delegates to discuss enhancing military cooperation operational, training and logistics projects.
Huneiti and the US delegates were briefed on the next phase of bilateral military cooperation to keep pace with regional developments.
