FM phones new Algerian counterpart

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi on Sunday telephoned Ahmed Attaf, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, over the "deep-rooted" relations between the two counties.

Safadi, who congratulated his Algerian counterpart on assuming his duties as foreign minister, underscored Jordan's eagerness to boost cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and build on the outcomes of the summit meeting between His Majesty King Abdullah and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria, according to a ministry statement.

Attaf stressed his nation's interest in expanding cooperation and boosting relations between the two countries.

Safadi and Attaf stressed that last December's summit opened the doors for practical institutional cooperation in various fields..

The ministers reviewed preparations for the ninth session of the Jordanian-Algerian Joint Committee, which is scheduled to be held in Amman next June. 

They also reviewed the outcomes of the Jordanian ministerial delegation's visit to Algeria last February, during which a joint roadmap was signed, covering three aspects of economic cooperation. including tourism, trade, investment, expansion of industrial activity and the resumption of direct flights between the two countries.

They also went over several regional and international issues, mainly the Palestinian cause, stressing the need to continue to work and coordinate efforts to help the Palestinian people and ensure their rights are met, especially their right to establish an independent, free and sovereign state on their national soil as per the two-state solution, as the only means to realise just and comprehensive peace.

The ministers also discussed efforts to solve the Syrian crisis, including the Jordanian initiative to launch a direct Arab-Syrian dialogue to end the Syrian crisis and address its repercussions.

Safadi and Attaf also agreed on continued communication and coordination, praising the development of relations between the two countries.
