Coordination with gov’t ongoing to resolve truck gridlock at Saudi-UAE border — JCC

AMMAN — The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) is coordinating with the government to help resolve the issue of trucks stalled at the Al Batha crossing between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, according to the chamber’s chairman Nael Kabariti.

The government is exerting all efforts to help solve the problem, especially as the trucks have been stalled there for 10 days, Kabariti told The Jordan Times on Saturday.

Dozens of Jordanian trucks coming from the UAE loaded with various food supplies needed for Ramadan have been stalled at the Saudi Al Batha customs centre, President of the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies Deifallah Abu Aqouleh told The Jordan Times.

Jordanian trucks coming from the UAE to transit through Saudi Arabia are stalled at the Saudi Al Batha crossing due to a reported “customs system failure”, Abu Aqouleh said. 

He called for a quick solution to the issue, noting that truckers are incurring losses as each day passes by.

Abu Aqouleh said there are currently around 400 Jordanian trucks in the UAE, including 200 that are already stalled at the border,  that were en route to Jordan.

The number of trucks stalled in the area from other countries is also increasing, he said.
