AMMAN — With the second academic semester scheduled to begin on February 5, the Ministry of Education said that school facilities are ready to welcome students.

In a statement made available to The Jordan Times, the Education Ministry’s Secretary General for Administrative and Financial Affairs Najwa Qabilat said that a total of 2.285 million students, 1.591 million of whom are public school students, are scheduled to start school this Sunday.

The new scholastic semester will begin with the presence of 144,616 teachers, 96,139 of whom work in public schools, the secretary general said, noting that all school premises are equipped, and school books have been prepared for the students.

The ministry’s spokesperson Ahmad Masaafah told The Jordan Times that “the ministry has carried out all preparatory measures for the second semester of 2022-2023”, adding that necessary maintenance work has been completed in schools.

According to the ministry, there have been 33 new school facilities with over 500 classrooms, in addition to 28 kindergarten classrooms constructed in 2022, valued at a total of JD65 million.

Marah Ghasan, an English teacher at a private school in Amman, told The Jordan Times that together with her colleagues, she has reviewed some lesson plans to prepare for two to three revision classes with her students.

“It has been a bit overwhelming the last period as we stared preparing, but also fun and we are excited to welcome our little ones again,” she said.

Ghasan’s colleague Sara Badran, an art teacher, said that she has prepared a few art activities to do with her students the first week of school, and has also added new materials for additional art projects.

“I like doing this every year because it gets students all excited to come back to school,” she added.
