AMMAN — The volume of rainfall during this year’s rainy reason has reached 52.7 per cent of the Kingdom’s annual average, the Water and Irrigation Ministry announced on Thursday.

A weather depression brought heavy rainfall to various regions across Jordan on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by light rain showers in some parts of the Kingdom on Thursday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

The ministry said that Jordan’s dams have been supplied with roughly 4 million cubic metres of water over the past 24 hours.

The King Talal Dam alone received 2.8 million cubic metres, increasing its storage to 85 million cubic metres, equivalent to 30.29 per cent of its storage capacity of 280.7 million cubic metres, the ministry added.

Across the governorates, Irbid recorded the highest precipitation rate at 51 milimetres (mm), while Amman received a total of 26.8mm, according to the ministry.

The JMD weather forecast showed that most regions across the Kingdom are expected to experience cold and partly cloudy weather conditions on Friday, with the possibility of light and sporadic rain showers in the north of the Kingdom and limited parts of its west-central regions.

Saturday is forecast to witness rain showers in the Kingdom’s northern region and parts of its central and eastern regions, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms and brisk to moderate northwesterly winds with the potential to stir dust in the Badia area, the report added.

Temperatures in Amman on Friday are expected to reach a high of 10°C during the day, dropping to 3°C at night, while on Saturday temperatures are forecast to range between a high of 8°C and low of 2°C, according to JMD.

In its five-day weather forecast, Arabia Weather, a weather forecasting company, said that the Kingdom will be affected by a new weather depression on Saturday.

The weather is forecast to be cold and cloudy to partly cloudy, marked by intermittently heavy rainfall accompanied by hail in the Kingdom’s northern and central regions, according to Arabia Weather.

Arabia Weather also forecast snowfall over the tops of northern highlands and a lower intensity of rainfall, extending across parts of the Kingdom’s eastern regions and the highlands of Karak and Tafileh.
