New edition of King Abdullah II Awards for Excellence for public, private sectors launched

AMMAN — The King Abdullah II Centre for Excellence (KACE) on Wednesday launched the new edition of the King Abdullah II Awards for Excellence for the public and private sectors, and the Jordanian Government Excellence Model.

Launching the awards was in response to His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives and assertion that the three modernisation tracks  — political, economic and administrative —  are a state project, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

KACE CEO Ibrahim Rawabdeh said that the centre has developed a new model for excellence and standards titled the Jordanian Government Excellence Model (KACE-5.0), according to the best international standards and a work mechanism based on meeting the national needs and institutional development.

Rawabdeh added that what distinguishes the new model is the introduction of the three-dimensional institutionalisation of coherence and integration at the institutional, sectorial and national levels.

The model aims to ensure the development of national competitiveness, institutionalisation of qualitative government action, listing enhancing standards concerned with modern concepts, such as administration of knowledge, innovation, change, future outlook, risk management, business continuity, governance, and administration of institutional performance. 

He added that the aim of launching the new model is to enable government agencies to meet the requirements and expectations of citizens in obtaining better quality government services.

The CEO added that the model provides a new roadmap for government institutions to reach better levels of performance in their journey towards excellence and leadership.

He noted that the model is inspired by the seven-edged Jordanian star and is based on eight concepts of excellence: Interdependence, three-dimensional integration, enhancing competitiveness, achieving entrepreneurship, instilling inspirational leadership, sustaining government work, creating sustainable value for clients, enhancing flexibility, change, results-based management, and embracing the ecosystem concept. 

The model was based on three pillars: Planning, implementation and transformation, while the pillars were divided into seven main criteria: National and sectorial strategic directions; leadership role; institutional strategic planning; government resource management; government work management; knowledge management; institutional learning; and change and innovation management. 

He added that KACE, during the ninth edition of King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency, adopted the standards of the new model, noting that this edition of the award has attracted 25 ministries and 65 public departments in eight sectors.
