AMMAN — The Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday lauded His Majesty King Abdullah's positions on Arab and Islamic issues, most notably the Palestinian cause, as expressed in various international and regional forums, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The committee’s response came during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi regarding regional developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, Jerusalem, Israel’s intrusion into Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif and Jordanian efforts exerted in this regard.

The committee condemned Israeli break-ins into the Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, the latest of which was the Israeli minister of national security's storming of the mosque this morning under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

Head of the Committee MP Khaldoun Hina said that Jordan’s foreign policy is clear, stemming from the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah and national interests.

Hina also stressed the need to stand behind His Majesty and support his stances in all international and regional forums, highlighting the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

“The Palestinian cause is Jordan's primary issue,” he said, adding that “Jerusalem is the city of peace, and everyone must believe in that”.

Members of the committee also commended the wise leadership of His Majesty and his role in promoting joint Arab action and restoring momentum to Palestinian issues.

During the meeting, deputies focused on regional developments and means to address them diplomatically, stressing that Jordan, thanks to the wisdom of His Majesty, enjoys global respect and appreciation as well as distinguished relations with various countries around the world.

They also pointed to the important role of Jordanian diplomatic missions abroad in promoting and encouraging investment in the Kingdom.

In turn, Safadi briefed the committee on diplomatic efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah, adding that His Majesty conducted intensive meetings last year aimed at crystallising a joint Arab effort and mobilising international support, which would be positively reflected on regional security and stability.

Safadi referred to the Kingdom's positions regarding various regional and international developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, stressing the need to stop all measures aimed at changing the existing historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its sanctity.

He also reiterated the Kingdom's rejection and condemnation of all violations against Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, including the most recent break-in at the site, which Safadi termed “a provocative step”.

Safadi also briefed the committee on the ministry's efforts to serve the Jordanian community abroad and its plans to develop and modernise the services it provides.
