E-platform for labour complaints to come in 10 languages next year

AMMAN — The Labour Ministry has finalised the Himaya (protection) platform for receiving labour-related complaints, in addition to domestic workers complaints, Imad Habarneh, Head of the Complaints and Hotline Department at the ministry, said on Friday.

The platform, which will be launched next year, includes 10 languages: Bengali, Hindi, Chinese, Indonesian, Nepali, Sri Lankan and Filipino, in addition to Arabic and English, Habarneh noted as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Habarneh said that labour associations, embassies, and civil society organisations will be given access to the system to submit e-complaints on behalf of workers, especially with regard to suspected human trafficking cases, noting that workers can also submit complaints and follow up on their accounts on the platform.

The platform was announced on the second day of a workshop on a project to reduce and mitigate child labour in hazardous sectors in Jordan.

The three-day workshop is held by Tamkeen for Legal Aid and Human Rights, with the support of the Regional Development and Protection Programme to support Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq, which kicked off Thursday in the Dead Sea region.

Participants in the workshop stressed the importance of raising awareness among service providers of procedures related to child labour.

They also called for increasing awareness among children and employers about legal frameworks pertaining to penalties for employers who hire children under circumstances that do not suit their age group.
