AMMAN — Police on Wednesday said they have detained a man who allegedly murdered his wife in an eastern Amman neighbourhood earlier in the day.
“We received information on Wednesday that a man murdered his wife over family issues and we began investigating the incident,” Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
Shortly after the reported incident, a “man walked into a police station and turned himself in”, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
“Investigators, forensics and lab technicians were dispatched to the crime scene,” according to the police official.
The victim’s body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate (PSD).
Investigations are ongoing with the suspect, the PSD statement added.
A senior judicial source told The Jordan Times Wednesday evening that the Criminal Court’s Prosecution Office was notified about the incident.
“The criminal court prosecutor will start questioning the suspect to learn more about the incident,” according to the senior judicial source.
The prosecution office will also summon the victim’s family members for further questioning, the senior judicial source added.
