AMMAN — Jordan has made "significant steps" towards political reform by enacting laws regulating political and partisan work as well as empowering women and youth, Lower House Speaker Abdulkarim Dughmi said on Monday.
During a meeting with George Loucaides, member of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Dughmi reviewed the comprehensive modernisation process launched by His Majesty King Abdullah in his message to the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The Lower House speaker said that these laws will contribute to expanding participation in the democratic process and providing a legislative and political environment that can enhance the role of women and youth in political life.
Loucaides praised the Kingdom's reforms to enhance democracy and promote sustainable development.
