Man allegedly shoots, kills son in Balqa

AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Saturday charged a man with one count of premeditated murder in connection with the shooting death of one of his children in the Balqa Governorate over the weekend, official sources said.

The suspect was also charged with two counts of attempted premeditated murder for shooting and injuring his son and his daughter while at their home in Salt on Friday, a senior official source said. 

Initial investigations indicated that the alleged shooting incident occurred following a “heated argument” between the “father and two of his sons, both in their 20s”, the senior official source told The Jordan Times.

“The father drew a gun and fired at his two sons; one bullet hit his daughter, 18, who was attempting to stop the fight between the three,” the senior source added.

The father reportedly fled from the house “but later turned himself in and handed officers on duty a gun he allegedly said was used in the shooting incident,” according to the senior official source.

The criminal court prosecutor ordered that the weapon be sent to the crime lab for ballistic analysis, the senior official source added.

All three victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where two of the three children survived the shooting following medical intervention, a senior medical source said.

One of the three was declared dead on arrival, the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

“The injured son is in stable condition while the female victim, 18, underwent surgery to extract a bullet from her stomach and remains in serious condition,” the senior medical source added.

The victim’s body was transferred to the Salt National Institute of Forensic Medicine where a team of senior pathologists headed by Saeb Hiasat, Ali Bqour and Hazem Abu Rumman performed an autopsy, according to the senior medical source.

“Investigators are remaining tight-lipped at this point in the investigation, and will not release the autopsy result pending further investigation,” the senior medical source added.

The suspect was ordered detained by the Criminal Court prosecutor for 15 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigation.
