AMMAN — The Lower House on Monday endorsed amendments to the law of the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) for 2022 as referred from the government.

The bill amended Item 13 of the law, where the amendment stipulates that president of the NCHR must not have partisan affiliations, and amended Item 16, where the amendment stipulates that general commissioner of the NCHR must not have partisan affiliations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The mandating reasons of the bill highlight the importance of the role tasked with the president of the board of trustees and the general commissioner for human rights in light of the goals that the centre seeks to realise, in a way that ensures neutrality.

The mandating reasons also aim at instilling the principles of neutrality and subjectivity to prevent conflict of interests and the influence of partisan affiliations of the NCHR president and commissioner general.
