Aqaba port livestock imports up by 15% in first half of 2022 — JNS

AMMAN — Aqaba port saw a 15 per cent increase in livestock imports during the first six months of 2022, compared with the same period of 2021, according to the Jordan Navigation Syndicate (JNS).

JNS Secretary General Mohammad Dalabih on Thursday said that a total of 934,000 head of sheep and cattle were imported through Aqaba during the January-June period, compared with 812,000 head during the same period last year.

The movements of shipping containers also showed an increase of 12.8 per cent, with a total of 421,489 containers handled during the first half of the year, compared with 373,703 in the same period of 2021, Dalabih noted.

The Aqaba port also received a total of 5 million tonnes of goods in the January-June period and the exports went up to 5.3 million tonnes, the JNS official said.  

Dalabih added that the Aqaba port received a total of 57,821 vehicles, against 46,928 during the same period of 2021, while the number of exported vehicles went down to 5,000, against 6,230 in the corresponding period of 2021.
