881 COVID cases recorded last week, marking 37% increase 

AMMAN — No COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the Kingdom during the 25th epidemiological week of 2022 spanning between June 18 and 24, for the third week in a row, while 881 virus cases were registered, compared with 642 cases recorded during the 24th week, showing an increase of 37 per cent, the government announced on Sunday.

The Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll remained the same at 14,068, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests that returned a positive result, known as the positive rate, stood at nearly 6.7 per cent over the last week, compared with 5.4 per cent throughout the 24th week.

A total of 13,127 coronavirus tests were conducted throughout the past week, compared with 11,694 tests conducted during the 24th week, with an increase of 12 per cent, according to the statement.

The statement added that 687 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine during the week. The total number of recoveries after finishing the quarantine period is expected to stand at 1,684,426, according to the statement.

The statement added that there are currently 703 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan, compared with 502 cases during the 24th week, marking an increase of 37 per cent.

A total of four COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals during the week, making the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to four, the statement said, adding that five recovered patients had left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds for COVID-19 patients reached 0 per cent, for ICU beds it reached 2 per cent and the occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 0 per cent.

In the central region, the isolation bed occupancy rate stood at 0 per cent, 1 per cent for ICUs and 1 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered zero per cent isolation bed occupancy, ICUs, and ventilators.

On the vaccination roll out, the statement said that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 4,801,379, while 4,534,574 have received their second shot and 665,539 have received the booster jab.  

The statement revealed that 71 per cent of 18-year-olds and over are now fully vaccinated, while only 20 per cent of those aged between 12 and 17 are fully vaccinated.
