AMMAN — The American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan (AmCham-Jordan) discussed mechanisms to increase the volume of Jordanian exports to the US and the logistical difficulties, in light of the current high sea freight costs globally and the lack of express courier companies operating to and from Aqaba port.

An AmCham statement, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Wednesday, stated that the session included a series of dialogues, chaired by Chamber President Samer Judeh and attended by the representatives of Jordan's private sector and the US embassy.

Participants agreed that the Aqaba port would be the "key option" for Jordan's exports and imports, in light of the expected increase in Kingdom's export volume to the US in the upcoming years. Attendees warned that a delay in working as a team will not be in the Jordanian interest, the statement said.

They called for increased government cooperation with the Aqaba Container Terminal and Aqaba Development Corporation to prevent a loss of Jordan's competitive advantage.
