Princess Dana Firas holds talks with Senate's heritage committee

AMMAN — HRH Princess Dana Firas, president of the Petra National Trust (PNT) and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage, on Wednesday met members of the Senate's Tourism and Heritage Committee. Princess Dana shared with the committee the main achievements and programmes of the PNT, which was established 30 years ago to promote sustainable management of cultural heritage sites through multifaceted projects meant to enhance world heritage preservation and wildlife.
The PNT also promotes the best preservation practices for the Kingdom's cultural and natural heritage and develops cultural industry programmes to generate revenue that supports tourism.
The princess said that the PNT has conducted the first comprehensive educational programme, which aims to teach children between the ages of seven and 18 about the values of cultural heritage, how to preserve it, and to raise their awareness of the value of Jordanian identity, which is part of “real citizenship”, noting that the programme was implemented in eight governorates, and intends to benefit of 3,000 students.
