AMMAN — The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) on Monday lit the Treasury, Petra’s iconic façade, Petra Museum and a number of places in the Petra Archaeological Park in purple, celebrating World Heritage Day, which annually falls on April 18.
Chairman of PDTRA Board of Commissioners Suleiman Farajat said that one of the authority’s priorities is to preserve Petra as a world heritage site in partnership with local communities and work on managing the archaeological site.
Farajat added that the authority had previously lit the Treausury on occasions of World Autism Awareness Day, World Tourism Day, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and World Cancer Day. Celebrating World Heritage Day comes to raise awareness of the protection of human heritage and extend appreciation towards collective efforts to preserve world heritage and protect human culture.
