ACC, ICT sector laud King’s efforts to boost economic situation

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts and ongoing follow-ups on the Kingdom’s economic situation, have pushed forward work in spite of challenges, the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) said on Saturday.

In a statement marking His Majesty King Abdullah’s birthday, which falls on Sunday, the chamber said that the critical economic situation associated with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic requires “joint action to serve the country’s interests”.

According to the ACC’s figures, trade and service sectors in the first half of 2021 accounted for 56.1 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices.

Jordan's GDP in the first half of 2021 amounted to JD14.992 billion at current prices, compared with JD14.618 billion during the same period of 2020.

A total of 34,736 companies and institutions with capital of some JD31.883 billion, in the first half of last year, were registered with the ACC, which was established in 1923.

The chamber’s members increased from 40 in 1923, to a current 50,000, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Also on Saturday, Haitham Rawajbeh, representative of the ICT sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC)  said that the sector in the Kingdom has achieved remarkable development over the years, thanks to His Majesty’s efforts and guidance to support the economy. 

The Kingdom has showed considerable progress, notably in opening new markets, enacting relevant laws and improving the business climate, Rawajbeh said, highlighting the advancements and the government’s efforts to prepare 5G infrastructure.
