AMMAN — The recent precipitation raised the overall volume of rainfall, since the beginning of the wet season to 32.7 per cent of Jordan’s long-term annual average of 8.1 billion cubic metres, the Water Ministry said on Sunday.
In a statement, the ministry said that until Sunday morning the rainfall channelled around 1.3 million cubic metres (mcm) of water into the Kingdom’s major dams, which equals 26.77 per cent of their total storage capacity of 336.4 mcm.
The ministry noted that the water flow needs between 24 and 48 hours to reach dams, calling on the public not to litter in the valley streams in order to preserve surface and groundwater, and to ensure that rainwater gutters are not connected to sewage networks.
