AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday met with Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde and  discussed means of bolstering cooperation.

On the sidelines of the fifth ministerial meeting of the Stockholm Initiative for Nuclear Disarmament and the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the ministers affirmed the continuation of developing relations and increasing cooperation in various fields, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Discussing regional issues, they focused on efforts exerted to revive peace talks and rally political and financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

They also reviewed developments in Syria and the refugee issue as well as support for the Iraqi government's efforts to establish security and stability.

Safadi valued Sweden's role as a key partner supporting UNRWA, stressing the importance of the two countries’ partnership to ensure the provision of the necessary support for the agency.

Jordan and Sweden have worked together since 2018 to rally financial and political support for UNRWA, organising three international meetings, which mainly contributed to bridging UNRWA’s financial deficit and enabling the agency to continue providing its services to Palestinian refugees, in accordance with its UN mandate.

The two countries have also worked jointly to relaunch serious and effective negotiations to achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

The two ministers agreed to continue communication and coordination to increase bilateral cooperation and coordinate efforts to resolve regional crises.
