Safadi holds slew of meetings on IISS Manama Dialogue sidelines

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Sunday met with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdul Latif Al Zayani to discuss means of enhancing the two kingdoms’ relations, with talks also covering regional developments.  

The two ministers, on the sidelines of the 17th edition of the Manama Dialogue meeting, stressed keenness to bolster cooperation in various fields, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi congratulated Zayani on the success of the Bahrain-hosted conference, which was jointly coordinated by the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). 

As part of his meetings with his counterparts and officials who attended the Manama Dialogue meeting, Safadi met Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, with talks focusing on enhancing mutual ties and the latest regional developments, foremost of which the Palestinian cause, as well as efforts towards resolving the regional crises.  

Safadi briefed his Greek counterpart on the output of the international ministerial conference on UNRWA, which was held in Brussels.

The two ministers also discussed the preparations for the sixth Regional Forum of Foreign Ministers of the Union for the Mediterranean, to be hosted by Spain on November 29.

Dendias valued the Kingdom’s role in instilling regional security and stability, reiterating his country’s support for Jordan.

In a separate meeting, Safadi also met State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Miguel Berger, with the two sides emphasising the ongoing action towards advancing coordination and cooperation over regional and international issues of shared interest, notably the Palestinian cause, the Syrian crisis and anti-terrorism efforts. 

Safadi, during the meeting, highlighted the necessity of scaling up efforts to re-launch a real effort to achieve peace on the basis of the two-state solution that is materialised by the establishment of the independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines.

He also expressed appreciation for German support for Jordan, emphasising the importance of the Jordanian-German partnership, and highlighting the German role in resolving regional crises. 

Safadi met National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk, with talks highlighting the ongoing action towards enhancing Jordanian-US partnership, as well as resolving regional crises.

Talks went over efforts towards creating “a real political horizon” to achieve peace in accordance with the two-state solution; the latest developments related to efforts towards resolving the Syrian crisis, as well as highlighting the need to support Iraq’s security and stability. 

Safadi expressed appreciation for US support to Jordan to face the economic challenges.

On the sidelines of the conference, Safadi also met American Jewish Committee Chief Policy and Political Affairs Officer Jason Isaacson over the latest developments of the peace process. 

Safadi acquainted a number of members of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees of the British Parliament with Jordan’s efforts towards the regional crises to maintain security and stability, reach a fair and comprehensive peace, one that Jordan reiterates that its sole way is meeting the Palestinians’ legitimate rights, notably right to freedom  and the establishment of the independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state, living in peace with Israel, on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law.

The British parliamentary delegation expressed keenness on enhancing cooperation between the two kingdoms’ parliaments.
