ILO, JCI sign cooperation agreement to strengthen commitment to decent work standards

AMMAN — The Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Better Work Jordan, a partnership between the International Labour Organisation and the International Finance Corporation.
The memorandum aims to enhance cooperation between the two parties to improve economic performance and raise their commitment to decent work standards of industrial establishments, especially the leather and garment industries, according to a statement made available to The Jordan Times.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Al Ali attended the signing ceremony.
Ehab Qadri, a member of the chamber’s board of directors and the representative of the leather and garment industries sector, said that the agreement comes as a continuation of years of cooperation between the sector and Better Work Jordan, which had a major role in improving compliance to all decent work standards in leather and garment factories.
The cooperation also reflects the sector’s performance and its exports to the US, he added.
Tariq Abu Qaoud, the director of Better Work Jordan at the ILO, said that the project aims to enhance the exchange of expertise between the ILO and the leather and garment industries sector.
It also seeks to provide the necessary technical consultations for the sector to improve its productivity and develop the industrial system in the employment and export fields.
He also thanked Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Al Ali, and the Ministry of Industry, for their efforts to support the industrial sector.
