AMMAN — Under the patronage of HRH Prince Mired, President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), the council launched a media competition titled “Address My Subject Objectively”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The launch of the competition comes within the framework of the council's policy that aims to establish a culture that integrates persons with disabilities and their enjoyment of their rights on the basis of equality with others.
The council explained, in a statement issued on Sunday, that this competition is the first media competition in the history of the Kingdom to encourage media to address the stories of people with a disability "without portraying them as either super heroic or vulnerable and pathetic".
The competition covers audio-visual, written and drama media.
Those wishing to apply for the competition can submit work they produced and published during the years 2020 and 2021 to the council, which in turn will classify, examine and judge it through an objective committee that includes experts in the specific areas of the competition.
A number of private sector institutions agreed to sponsor this competition, Petra reported.
The value of the prizes is JD2,500 for the first winner, JD1,700 for the second winner, while the third winner will receive JD1,000.
Contestants should submit their work by November 7. The winners will be announced and handed the prizes in a ceremony under the patronage of the prince in December, during the celebration of the International Day of People with Disability.
The winning works will also be promoted in various media and social media platforms.
