Royal Decree approves amendments to nursing, midwifery by-law

AMMAN — A Royal Decree has been issued, approving amendments to the by-law related to nursing and midwifery practice, No. 36 of 2021, which has come into effect after being published recently in the Official Gazette.

President of the Jordanian Nurses and Midwives Association Khaled Rababa, in a statement, said that amendments allowed nurses who completed their bachelor’s degree and hold a Tawjihi certificate from the nursing or health streams to sit for the licensing examination, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He added that the amendments rejected the association’s proposals, including the one regarding the exclusion of those graduated before May 1, 2019 from the requirement for sitting for the licensing examination held by the Nursing Council.

The amendments also rejected adding the title “adviser” in the certificates and reducing the exam fees. He said that the association is communicating with the Legalisation and Opinion Bureau and the Ministry of Health to address the problem and make the necessary amendments.

About 1,000 nurses are working in the public sector and medical services, among others, without professional licences, Petra added.
