15 COVID deaths, 521 virus cases recorded Saturday

AMMAN — Fifteen COVID-19 deaths and 521 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Saturday, increasing the caseload to 729,706.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 9,357, according to a government statement.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 3.31 per cent, compared with 3.16 per cent reported on Friday.

A total of 15,735 virus tests were also conducted on Saturday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 7,096,837, according to the statement.

The statement added that 743 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Saturday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 709,876.

The statement added that there are currently 10,473 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 80 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Saturday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 637, the statement said, adding that 37 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 12 per cent, ICU beds reached 24 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 18 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 15 per cent, 25 per cent for ICUs and 9 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 7 per cent, 7 per cent for ICUs and 6 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 179 infections in Amman, 80 in Irbid, including 11 cases in Ramtha District, 68 in Zarqa, 38 in Balqa, 35 in Mafraq, 23 in Ajloun, 22 in Jerash, 21 in Karak, 21 in Maan, out of which six cases in Petra District, 17 in Tafileh, 13 in Aqaba and four in Madaba.
