COVID vaccination begins at Baqaa Healthcare Centre

AMMAN — The UNRWA-affiliated Baqaa Healthcare Centre on Tuesday started COVID-19 vaccinations for more than 260 individuals registered on the Health Ministry’s coronavirus vaccine platform.

As part of the National Vaccination Campaign to fight COVID-19, an UNRWA medical team in cooperation with the Health Ministry has started administering the Pfizer vaccine at the health centre, according to a statement made available for the Jordan Times.

The move reflects the “unceasing cooperation” between Jordan and UNRWA towards offering necessary services to Palestinian refugees, among others, amid the pandemic.

"On behalf of UNRWA, I would like to thank the Jordanian government for its continued cooperation with the agency to maintain the necessary services for Palestine refugees, specifically amid the current circumstances due to the spread of the coronavirus," said Marta Lorenzo, director of UNRWA Affairs in Jordan.

Lauding the Kingdom’s efforts in this arena, Lorenzo added that Jordan has been one of the world’s first countries to start COVID-19 vaccines for any individual on Jordanian soil, be it a resident, refugee, or immigrant.

The vaccination service will be offered daily at the Al Baqaa clinic to ensure the maximum level of immunisation. Two other centres will be allocated, namely Zarqa Camp Clinic and the new Irbid Clinic, to provide COVID vaccine, once the Ministry of Health issue its guidance in this matter.
